These steamed idlis are full of proteins due to the use of whole green gram. Go ahead and try this wholesome breakfast.
MOONG IDLI
Ingredients
1 cup whole green gram (moong), soaked and drained
½ cup split skinless black gram (dhuli urad dal), soaked and drained
Salt to taste
1½ tbsps ginger-green chilli paste
Oil for greasing
Method
1. Grind drained moong alongwith sufficient water into a coarse mixture. Transfer into a bowl.
2. Grind urad dal along with sufficient water to make a smooth and spongy batter. Add it to the moong paste. Add salt, mix well. Cover and set aside for 7-8 hours.
3. Add ginger- chilli paste and salt to the fermented idli batter and mix.
4. Heat sufficient water in an idli steamer.
5. Grease idli moulds with oil and fill then upto ¾ with the idli batter.
6. Steam for 10-12 minutes. Remove from heat and demould with a spoon dipped in water.
7. Serve hot with coconut chutney and sambhar.
