The good old Halwa made with fresh red and green apples loaded with dried nuts makes for an amazing dessert after a heavy meal.
APPLE HALWA
Ingredients
2 medium red apples grated
2 medium green apples grated
1 tbsp + 1 tsp ghee
⅓ cup sugar
A large pinch of saffron
2 tbsps slivered almonds+ for garnish
2 tbsps pistachios blanched peeled and slivered + for garnish
½ tsp green cardamom powder
½ cup khoya
Method
1. Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a non-stick wok add grated apples and sauté well. Cook for 15-20 minutes or till the moisture reduces sautéing occasionally.
2. Add sugar saffron and mix well. Cook till the sugar dissolves completely and till most moisture evaporates.
3. Add almonds pistachios green cardamom powder khoya and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
4. Add remaining ghee and mix well. Cook for 1 minute and take it off the heat. Transfer into a serving bowl.
5. Garnish with almonds and pistachios. Serve.
